Recall

Recall how a line-ending choice can delay or accelerate what listeners understand.

Apply

Write a 16–28-line original poem with a meaningful turn; build a breath/emphasis/pace/turn map; rehearse three times with one variable changed per trial.

Reflect

Which revision genuinely strengthened the poem rather than adding a device to reach an arbitrary quota?

Prior study: Week 10 imagery · Week 11 sound and form.

Day 59Poem 4Rehearsal

Write for the Ear, Then Rehearse the Meaning

How can a poet design a page that supports a deliberate oral interpretation?

Learning Target

I can create the fourth Unit 4 poem and prepare an evidence-based performance plan.

Poem 4 · Voice & Cadence

Write an original 16–28 line poem designed to work both silently and aloud. It must contain a meaningful turn or shift. Your lineation, punctuation, sound pattern, repetition, pace, or silence should serve that turn.

No device quota. You do not need alliteration, rhyme, caesura, metaphor, refrain, and enjambment in one poem. Choose only the craft that earns its place.
Performance Map
Breath

Where is a pause required by syntax? Where is one optional?

Emphasis

Which words carry the conceptual or emotional load?

Pace

Where should time expand, tighten, or hesitate?

Turn

How will the listener hear the poem change direction?

Studio Choice

Draft by hand, type directly, or use one of the optional studio tools. Writer’s Grove may generate constraints only; it may not generate the poem. PROSE may organize and preserve versions after intellectual work exists.

Handwriting Lab

Useful for spacing, line breaks, annotations, arrows, and physical revision.

Open Lab

Writer’s Grove

Optional constraints for voice, image, tone, structure, and tension.

Open Grove

PROSE

Preserve Draft 1, revised version, craft notes, and final portfolio copy.

Rehearse

Select one poem from the four-poem portfolio for formal reading. Rehearse at least three times, changing only one variable each time: pace, emphasis, or pause. Keep notes about what improved and what became distorted.

Day 59 · Interpretation & Craft Check

Five formative questions · Four correct (80%) reveals the next lesson; written work remains independently evaluated.

Voice & Cadence Poem Studio

Develop the parts in your own words, preview, and explicitly append to your separate saved daily evidence.
