Sovereign Virtual Energy Lab · Week 11

Spring Energy Studio

Track stored elastic potential energy, kinetic energy and prescribed transfer to other forms during a partial spring release.

Assumptions and safety

In the Hooke-linear spring approximation, U_s=½kx², with k in N/m and x in METERS. The simulation converts displayed centimeters into meters and assumes a body released from rest while spring compression decreases without reversing. Released potential energy becomes kinetic energy and a user-prescribed fraction transferred to other forms. The fraction is an instructional assumption, not a measured drag, friction, or damping coefficient.

2. Visual energy conservation ledger

All three bars sum to initial stored potential energy. The labels and numerical readout give exact values independent of the colors.

5. Seven-round conservation game

Calculate kinetic energy remaining after a prescribed energy transfer. Seven different cases randomly selected from eleven, with one score per answer and immediate worked feedback.
