Parent Roadmap
1. Stabilize the urgent issue.
Use 911 for immediate danger, 988 for mental health crisis, 211 for local services, and specialized hotlines for domestic violence, trafficking, runaway youth, child abuse, or missing children.
2. Secure food, health care, and safe shelter.
Apply for SNAP/WIC/school meals, locate a food bank, call a local health center, check Medicaid/CHIP, and ask about emergency rental, shelter, or utility help.
3. Keep children connected to school and care.
Ask the school about transportation, meals, McKinney-Vento supports for housing instability, IEP/504 evaluations, after-school programs, and attendance help.
4. Build a longer-term support plan.
Use the saved plan, benefits finder, child care subsidy information, job training, legal aid, child support services, and parent centers to move from crisis support toward stability.
