Term IV · Weeks 34–36

Unit 12

Capstone Portfolio & Oral Defense

Curate a standards-based portfolio, revise major works, complete a synthesis capstone, sit for a cumulative examination, and defend learning orally.

Essential Question

How can a student demonstrate growth, judgment, independence, and a distinctive command of language?

Text and Source Family

The student’s complete body of Grade 9 work, selected mentor texts, research sources, and reflective evidence.

Learning Priorities

  • Read closely and cite precise textual evidence.
  • Write through planning, drafting, feedback, revision, editing, and reflection.
  • Use language conventions and vocabulary as tools for meaning and style.
  • Discuss, present, listen, question, and respond with intellectual fairness.
  • Preserve major work in the Grade 9 portfolio.

Required reading · The Final Conference

Original Academy text; available offline.

At the portfolio conference, Kai presented a weak early draft beside a revised argument. The change was visible in the evidence and explanations, not simply in the length. Kai named one persistent weakness and set a new reading goal.

Reading assignment: Reread, annotate at least two details, explain what the passage supports and what remains uncertain, and draft one evidence-based response connected to the unit's essential question. Revisit during Weeks 34–36. Save writing in the existing portfolio.
