What is a defensible claim about motion in different frames?
Objective: Write an evidence-backed comparison of displacement and velocity using graph and equation evidence.

State the frame in the claim
A valid claim answers the essential question without treating a coordinate as an absolute property. For example: 'In this constant-velocity model, a frame moving +2 m/s reports a velocity 2 m/s lower than the ground frame.' This is stronger than saying vaguely that the object 'went slower,' because slower speed is not always true when signed velocities change across zero.
Use at least two numerical values
A model starting at x₀=0 m with v=3 m/s and a=0 reaches +12 m at t=4 s. A frame moving +1 m/s records x′=8 m at the same time. Compute the two average velocities: +3 m/s and +2 m/s. Cite the paired runs and label both frames. The evidence is mathematical model output and should not be described as measured train speed.
Give the mechanism and a limitation
The reference-frame transformation subtracts observer displacement ut from object position, so a moving observer assigns different coordinates and velocities. If the reference frame accelerates or speeds become relativistic, the simple transformation is insufficient. The studio assumes constant acceleration in one dimension and ignores uncertainties. For an actual investigation, repeated measurements and a clear coordinate convention would be necessary.
Practice for understanding, not for a private exam
Today you will answer ten public, randomized open-book questions from the Week 02 bank. Review feedback for missed items and try again after correcting your notes. This practice is not a confidential final or an authenticated school record. Keep teacher-reviewed CER work and official examination results in the separate authorized assessment process.
Vocabulary
claim
A clear statement answering the investigable question within explicit conditions. Explain with an original example.
evidence
Relevant calculated or measured data, labeled with units and source, supporting a claim. Explain with an original example.
reasoning
Logical explanation that connects evidence to a valid physics principle or model. Explain with an original example.
limitation
A restriction on the model, procedure or evidence that narrows a conclusion. Explain with an original example.
correction
A documented revision that identifies and resolves a misconception or calculation error. Explain with an original example.
Worked example
Claim: the same object can have v=3 m/s on the ground but v′=2 m/s in a frame moving u=1 m/s. Over 4 s, Δx=12 m and Δx′=8 m. Both obey x′=x−ut.
Check signs and units. Show each calculation rather than memorizing a number.
Data and Graph Studio
Explore the position–time and velocity–time graphs; change one variable at a time and explain the evidence.
Create your CER paragraph using two numeric observations, a correct slope calculation, an assumption, a counterclaim and a next test. Then complete the Friday 10-item practice.
